The leopard is the largest wild cat of all of the African Wild Cats. The word leopard comes from the Old French word “laopardge” which means “wild-cat”. In recent years, though, this cat has been brought into the attention of many people, not only by its popularity in books and movies, but also because of its increasing size. There is an old saying, “A story is only half a story when half of the tale has been hidden or left out.” This is certainly true of the leopard. Unfortunately, as its popularity increases, so does its deceptive appearance.
When it comes to cats, size sometimes gets in the way of who really knows what is really going on. There are stories of leopards who are large and scary looking, and there are also many who claim that these cats are actually extremely gentle and mild tempered. Many people think that all big cats are dangerous, and some even believe that leopards are more dangerous than the cheetah, due to their unmatched intelligence.
No matter how you look at it, the leopard remains a majestic animal. They are, after all, larger than any other cat. They can be seen easily, and they are definitely recognizable. While many may discount the leopard as being too large to be a useful pet, considering their intellect and their size (all of which are undisputed), this cat will make a great pet, as long as it is well cared for.
