Leopard Kung Fu

Leopard is one of the southern animal styles of kung fu, it is a fast paced style that relies on rapid short range techniques and foot work. Like tiger and crane leopard is considered an external style, its training develops physical strength, speed and the ability to generate tremendous power from the ground up.

The leopard style uses a quick and flexible open-fist technique that allows the practitioner to crush, jab, rake, or stab the opponent with ease. Its secondary strike is the Leopard Fist bao chui which focuses the shock of each punch on the soft pressure points of the body notably the throat.

It is a good idea to practice this type of striking against a partner as it will help you to understand how to deal with the unpredictable and the chaotic nature of real fighting. The leopard style also de-emphasizes blocking as it is difficult to see and intercept an oncoming attack, move your arm and actually deflect it all in 3/10ths of a second.

The Leopard style incorporates techniques from other Animal styles as well especially the tiger and snake forms. In addition it combines elements of the Phoenix kung fu form (Feng Huang), this adds bird-like energy to the style and its powerful knuckle strikes. The Golden Leopard is a unique martial art with Master Level practitioners fighting in unison, throwing and pulling each other, practicing high levels of group fighting tactics and ambush techniques.
